One of the first memories I have of taking photos is when my mother handed me a Kodak 35mm disposable camera during her job's holiday party.  I must’ve been 13 years old at the time. She wanted me to take photos of the party for her as she was busy working and partying.  I've handle cameras before but not necessarily with this type of responsibility. I remember asking her what kind of pictures she wanted me to take and she said “anything, everything, or nothing at all…whatever get's your attention.”

Even at that age life can be complicated.  You are constantly encountering changes as you start to realize the world around you.  It can be confusing, frustrating, and exciting all at the same time.  But when I looked into the viewfinder of that camera I saw the world a little differently. It was reduced and simplified into a 2D plane and my interaction and impression of that image were modified by the boundaries placed by the frame.

From then on I was hooked and haven't put a camera down since...
